The fire took place around 11 a.m. Sunday at the three-story residence at 66 Garfield Ave., said Bridgeport Fire Department Deputy Chief Executive Officer Lance Edwards.
The first arriving fire units reported heavy fire on the second and third floors of the home. Shortly after the Battalion Chief called for a second alarm for additional resources, Edwards said.
One resident was removed from the interior rear staircase by firefighters and transported to the hospital. A firefighter was also transported to Bridgeport Hospital for burns suffered during the event, he added.
Firefighters had the blaze under control in about an hour.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
Edwards said the Red Cross provided lodging for the tenants and that UI and the gas company secured power to the building.
A primary and secondary search of the home was conducted and did not find any additional victims.
